Anne Marie Murphey, 68, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Anne was born in the U.S. Army Hospital at Frankfurt, Germany. As the daughter of a career Army officer, she had many adventures including living on Okinawa and at Fort Riley, Kansas. She graduated from Southwest High School in Fort Worth and attended the University of North Texas. Anne was a dental assistant for Dr. Ed Hodges when she was introduced to her husband, Dr. Griffin Murphey. She was a proud Navy wife for a few months before the couple moved to Fort Worth and established a dental practice. Anne was his one-woman staff for their first few years and remained the bookkeeper until recently. She had been a choir member of St. Patrick Cathedral and was dedicated to supporting the auxiliary to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns. She was active in and Past President of the Alliance to the Fort Worth District Dental Society. When the Fort Worth District Dental Society began its Save a Smile program for underprivileged children, she assisted Dr. Murphey in performing hundreds of dental screenings. Anne was active in many civic events including Chi Omega Carousel and Jewel Charity Ball. A special favorite activity was her work with the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. An enthusiastic extrovert, she greeted many stock show visitors and had a world map titled “Where’re Y’all From?” and loved to have people put little sticker dots on it to indicate their home towns. In 2019 she became the “boss” at that post and loved it. Anne was a dedicated 5 am walker, averaging two miles a day. She was also a superb cook and baker, among her many homemaking skills.
