Philip Paul Cloud

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Philip (Phil) Paul Cloud after a brief stay at Dallas Methodist Hospital on Thursday, December 3, 2020.

Born to Roger and Nedah Cloud as their fourth and youngest child on November 17, 1959 at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, Phil was a beloved husband, devoted father, first time grandfather, proud Grapevine High School graduate, respected banker, and dear friend to many.

Through his youth and teen years, Phil’s fondest memories were growing up in Grapevine and the friendships he developed at Grapevine Middle and Grapevine High School. He looked forward to homecoming each year and seeing his fellow 1978 classmates and teachers, many of whom he is still in close contact with. While at GHS, he played on the Mustang football and golf teams.

Phil received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in Finance where he met his future wife, Sarah. Phil and Sarah were married in May of 1984 and recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. Together, they raised three daughters, who attended GCISD schools Kindergarten through 12th grade and are also Grapevine High School alumni.

Phil followed in his father’s footsteps as a lifelong banker. He started at Continental National Bank in Fort Worth and worked at the Arizona Bank, Security Pacific and Bank of America in Phoenix before returning Grapevine. Phil completed the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) at Southern Methodist University (1996). He recently retired from Bank of the West in Grapevine as Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer where he celebrated his 20th anniversary this past June. Bank of the West was by far his favorite work experience and he enjoyed being a part of the BOW community banking family.

As an active community member, Phil was a proud member of the Grapevine AMBUCS and the AMBUCS’ Big Hat Club, Grapevine Rotary Club, Grapevine Municipal Golf Course, and Saint Francis Catholic Church. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce in 2000, the Advisory Board for the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau 1997-2007, and the GCISD Education Foundation Board of Directors. He frequently volunteered and supported Main Street Days and GrapeFest festivals.

Phil, was given and gave out a few nicknames through the years, “Pops” (recently as his grandfather moniker), “Philip 66” (a name his siblings and aunt gave him to tease him growing up), “Tiger” (a nickname his father adopted for him after he had a brief stay as an infant in the hospital and the nurses called him that) “Doctor Cloud” (Dan Fletcher called him the doctor of banking) and “Puff” or “Puff Daddy” (given by his AMBUCS and golfing buddies). He enjoyed golf, especially with his “Sunday Morning” golf group at the Grapevine golf course, and he was particularly proud of his “hole-in-one” accomplishment. He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em and an occasional poker tournament. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Naughton Cloud; children, Stephanie and Payton Lambe, Samantha and David Smith, and Shannon Cloud; grandson, Andrew Smith. Phil is also survived by his mother, Nedah Helton Cloud-Griffith; siblings, Kandie and Allen Kuehn, Mike and Safaa Cloud, Konnie Morris; aunt, Vicki McCall; and several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and large extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Cloud.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at the Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas.
