Walter Michael McClure, 73, of Garland, TX, passed away on August 1st after a valiant battle with Cholangiocarcinoma. Mike was born on June 2nd, 1948 to Betty and Walter McClure in Fort Worth, TX. After graduating from Ft. Worth Poly in 1966, he went on to study Business at his beloved Texas Christian University.
After graduation, he landed his first (and only) job as a financial advisor for Equitable where he stayed 50 years leaving a tremendous impact on all he came in contact with, from training new recruits to being everyone’s “go-to” guy for questions. In 1978, he met Cathy, and they wed in 1980, going on to have three children, Meghan, Justin and Darren.
Mike had a larger than life personality and never met a stranger. He leaves a powerful legacy as a genuine friend, consummate storyteller, and an lover of good food and even better tequila! He was passionate about sports especially the Astros, Mavs and Horned Frogs and watching a game with him was never dull! He also had a strong love of music and shared his passion for Jethro Tull and other classic rock faves with anyone even remotely within ear shot. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his kids and wife, and always tried his best to support them. Anyone who knew Mike knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Betty and Walter and brother, Doug. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; his daughter, Meghan, her husband David and their children, Mackenzie and Carter; his son Darren, his wife, Danielle, and their children, Demi and Dessa; and his son Justin and girlfriend Chessie.
